Emergency services were called after a woman in her 50s was attacked with a large kitchen knife as she was walking in Biggin Street at 22:10 GMT on Friday, Kent Police said.

The victim was treated at hospital for injuries to her back and has since been discharged.

A 47-year-old woman, from Dover, has been charged with attempted murder and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place.

She has been remanded in custody to appear before Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Monday.

The suspect was unknown to the victim, police added.

Det Ch Insp Bev Morrison previously said the incident was "horrific".

"I would like to commend the courageous actions of those who bravely intervened, and who without hesitation and no thoughts for their own safety put themselves at risk," he said.
