Three people have been arrested after police found three cannabis farms in Lancashire.

More than 200 cannabis plants were seized in Burnley and Rossendale, Lancashire Police said.

Officers located illegal farms on Holly Street and Westgate in Burnley and Newchurch Road in Bacup after "acting on intelligence".

A 35-year-old woman and two men, 21 and 35, from Burnley have been held on suspicion of burglary.

'Strange smells'

The woman has also been held on suspicion of drug driving.

The force said officers discovered 50 cannabis plants on Westgate in Burnley after being called out to reports of a burglary and finding the electricity meter had been bypassed.

“The cultivation of cannabis can cause misery for communities and often funds serious and organised crime," Sgt Victoria Bramley said.

She said that tampering with the electricity supply to power cannabis farms was "dangerous, not just for the property but also for those living in neighbouring properties too".

Anyone who sees anything suspicious, such as screened-off windows, unusual amounts of heat coming from a house or strange smells or sounds, is asked to contact the force.
