A woman in her 60s has died following a crash between a car and a lorry on a major road.

Essex Police were called to the A132, Burnham Road, South Woodham Ferrers, Essex, at about 16:00 BST on Tuesday after the two vehicles collided.

Two children who were travelling in the car have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 41-year-old man who was driving the lorry has been arrested, Essex Police said. It added he has been assisting them with inquiries and remains in custody.

A spokesperson for the force has urged anyone who might have more information to come forward and help with its inquiries.
