People are being encouraged to attend an event to find out more about careers in care.

The Big Care Career Fair, hosted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will allow visitors to learn about current and future jobs, as well as get CV advice.

The free event will take place on Friday at the Leslie Downs lecture theatre at the University of Hull's Ferens building from 13:00 GMT until 15:00.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet member for adult social care and health, said the fair "showcases the incredible opportunities in adult social care and the vital role care workers play in our communities".

The event will feature a range of health and care sector employers and will showcase full-time or part-time work roles and opportunities for students seeking experience.

The campaign also highlights other roles in care such as catering assistants, cooks, gardeners, project planners and IT experts.

Tina Tate, strategic resourcing manager at the council said: "Following the success of last year's event, we're proud to bring together a wide range of care providers under one roof to help people explore the many opportunities available.

''Whether you're just starting out, looking for a change, or returning to work, come along, ask questions, and find out if care is for you.''

Official estimates suggest there were 131,000 vacancies in social care in England, external last year.

The government has promised a new fair pay agreement for care staff and wants companies to recruit and train more people from the UK.
