Former church leader faces sexual assault charges

A former Methodist Church leader is due to appear in court to face charges of sexual assault and indecent assault, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police said Steven Wild, who was chair of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Methodist District from 2008 until 2022, will appear at Truro Magistrates Court on 15 September.

Mr Wild, 70, has been summoned to appear in connection with seven counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault, police said.

The force added: "We would urge people not to speculate on this case, especially on social media, and risk prejudicing proceedings."
