The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) confirmed a prosecution had started, with the firm accused of breaching multiple health and safety regulations.

A spokesperson for Biffa Waste Services said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the deceased. We continue to cooperate with the HSE and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."

A HSE spokesperson said: "HSE has commenced a prosecution against Biffa Waste Services Limited following an investigation into the death of a worker at its transfer station in Bradford.

"The company is accused of breaching Regulations 3(1)(a), 3(1)(b) and 5(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999."
