Body found in park in search for missing woman

A body has been found in the search for a woman who had been missing for more than two weeks.

Mavis, whose surname has not been released, was last seen leaving her home in the Haughton area of Darlington on 16 September, according to Durham Police.

The force said a body found in the Preston Park area on Saturday, was believed to be the 62-year-old.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and formal identification is due to take place.

Mavis' family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers, police said.

She was last seen leaving South Park at about 13:30 BST on 16 September.

Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team (TWSMRT) had also been involved in the search.
