A person has died in a house fire in Cumbria.

The fire took hold in the living room of a property on Brisco Road, Brisco, on Saturday morning.

Roads around the village, which is near Carlisle, were closed for hours as emergency services worked at the scene.

A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said its crews had carried out the casualty and handed them over to paramedics, adding: "It was later confirmed as a fatal incident."

Crews from three stations had been at the scene for two hours, he added.

The fire was reported at about 10:30 GMT.

The BBC understands police and an air ambulance also attended.
