Two men have been charged after heroin with an estimated street value of more than €8m (£6.8m) and a plane were seized at an airport in Dublin.

The two men, aged in their 40s and 60s, are due to appear in court on Monday morning, gardaí (Irish police) have said.

A light aircraft was intercepted and later seized on Friday at Weston Airport, Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported.

This followed the discovery of 60kg of vacuum-packed heroin in the aircraft.

The pair due to appear in court were arrested under drug trafficking legislation and detained at a Garda station in County Kildare.

Gardaí said that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
