A man has been arrested after police raided five cannabis factories in Coventry.

Police recovered more than 850 plants and six kilos of dried cannabis which they said had a total street value of £850,000.

The man, 42, was held on suspicion of cultivating cannabis, officers added.

The force said wiring used to bypass electricity meters at the properties "could have easily resulted in a fire".

"I am glad our teams shut these cannabis farms down before that happened," said Supt Ronan Tyrer.

The drugs were found on Wednesday after police carried out searches of two addresses on Widdrington Road and others on Three Spires Avenue, Northfield Road and Spring Road.

The properties were thought to be unconnected, police said, and all their electricity supplies were shut down by National Grid.
