Care home murder accused man dies in prison

A man charged with murdering a care home resident has died in prison while awaiting his trial.

William Prince, 63, was accused of murdering Geoffrey Kershaw, 90, in Barrow in March.

Mr Prince died on 18 May at HMP Preston in Lancashire, HM Prison Service said.

The service said the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman would investigate his death.

Mr Prince was due to go on trial in September.

Cumbria Police said Mr Kershaw died in hospital on 22 March five days after an incident at an address in Abbey Road in Barrow.
