Plans for 68 homes at Pointues Rocques are moving onto the next stage.

The States of Guernsey said it had given support to the Guernsey Housing Association (GHA) to hold negotiations for the land.

Talks between GHA, landowners and potential developers were set to happen over the coming months, the States said.

It said any deal reached from talks would be presented to politicians and the GHA board before a final agreement was made.

About two-thirds of the properties - about 45 units - have been earmarked as affordable homes, the States said.

It added this more than meets the criteria set out by the GP11 policy for affordable housing on the island - which is 30% of developments being affordable homes.

An attempt to remove this policy is due to be debated later this month.

Vic Slade, chief executive of the Guernsey Housing Association, said: "There is still work to be done, but, with support from the States and collaborative working with the landowners, we have an opportunity to bring forward more affordable, general needs homes than might otherwise be possible on this site."
