GP is appointed CBE in Windsor Castle ceremony

Dr Chandra Kanneganti received the honour in recognition of services to general practice and promoting equality and diversity in the UK

A GP from Stoke-on-Trent said he was honoured and humbled to collect a CBE from the Princess Royal.

Dr Chandra Kanneganti was awarded the honour in the King’s New Year Honours List in recognition for services to general practice and promoting equality and diversity in the UK.

Dr Kanneganti arrived in the UK from India in 2002, and has since gone on to serve as national chairman and national president of the British Indian Doctors Association.

He attended a ceremony in Windsor on Wednesday with his family to formally receive his honour.

Dr Kanneganti said: “I am honoured and humbled to have received my CBE from the Princess Royal today at Windsor Palace.

“Thanks again to the residents of Stoke-On-Trent who have given me the opportunity to serve them as their GP.

“Also, I am grateful to my GP colleagues who have elected me to represent them in national roles which enabled me to work hard for sustainable and safe general practice, which is the jewel in the crown of the NHS.”

Dr Kanneganti is an observer member of the Royal College of General Practitioners and also a British Medical Association GP committee member.

He has worked in the NHS for more than 22 years and currently runs three GP practices in Stoke-on-Trent.

He is also a city councillor, and served as mayor in 2020-2021.
