The manager of a music venue said he had been inundated by messages of support after a fire caused damage on Wednesday morning.

Flames broke out at The Underground on Morley Street in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, but were quickly extinguished by firefighters, according to venue boss Lee Barber.

He said a review of CCTV suggested two people set fire to waste bins and the blaze spread to the venue’s doorway and ceiling.

Mr Barber added: “Fortunately the fire brigade arrived in no time and the fire was extinguished. There is a lot of damage but we are now working hard to ensure we will be up and running in time for Saturday’s event.”

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for more information.
