The roundabout junction sees a huge volume of traffic at peak times

A £5m roundabout is to be altered after complaints it is dangerously confusing.

Norcross roundabout in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, was put in five years ago.

But there have been a number of accidents and near misses, and last month the Blackpool North and Fleetwood MP Lorraine Beavers described it as "dangerous".

Highways England said it was now changing the road markings and reducing the speed limit.

The roundabout sees one of the Fylde Coast's busiest roads - Amounderness Way - join with Fleetwood Road South and Norcross Lane.

It was built with improved crossing points for cyclists and pedestrians, traffic lights and a new island.

But the roundabout soon became problematic, with drivers either getting confused by the layout or making dangerous manoeuvres to switch lanes.

National Highways said it was making changes, the Local Democracy Reporting Service reports.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "We are progressing changes to the road markings on the junction and a reduction in the speed limit on the northbound approach.

"This is currently with our designers, and we expect the changes to be completed this financial year."

Traffic survey cameras were installed last year as part of investigations into why the roundabout had become an accident blackspot.
