Searches are under way in Coventry for a man who went missing nearly two years ago and may have come to harm, Warwickshire Police have said.

Stefan Watkins was reported missing on 23 May 2023 after he had not been seen for several weeks.

Police have now said there may have been a sighting of him earlier that month, on 7 May 2023, in Coventry.

Det Insp Gareth Unett said officers continued to work to find Mr Watkins, but their main line of inquiry was that he may have come to harm. Searches are expected to continue over the weekend.

Mr Unett said: "We continue to work to find Stefan and remain open-minded as to what may have happened to him.

"Unfortunately, our main line of enquiry is that he may have come to harm.

"We'd welcome any information that might help us locate him and bring some closure for his family and friends."

Officers have established Mr Watkins may have been seen at about 01:30 BST on Sunday, 7 May 2023, at the junction of Vauxhall Street and Berry Street in Hillfields.

Police were searching that area of the city on Friday.

The force said Mr Watkins, from Warwick, was 47 at the time of his disappearance.

The missing man, who was also known as "Lee", or "Lee Lee", was described as about 6ft, with blue eyes and short hair.

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with the force or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.
