Students are being asked to design a ceremonial mace to represent the Fenton area of Stoke-on-Trent.

The city council has decided to work on the project with the University of Staffordshire, as part of the city's centenary celebrations.

Fenton is one of the six towns which united in 1910 to form what later became known as the city of Stoke-on-Trent in 1925, but currently has no chain of office or ceremonial mace.

The designs will be judged in early 2025 and presented to Fenton in April, as part of the city's civic regalia.

The young designers have been asked to incorporate references to the ceramics industry, because of Fenton's historic ties with the trade.

Stoke-on-Trent’s Lord Mayor, Lyn Sharpe, said she hoped they would "really get a feel for the passion and pride us Fentonians have".
