A public consultation programme for the development of Wednesbury has been launched.

The Wednesbury Town Centre Masterplan is seeking the views of residents on shaping the look of the area during the next ten years.

The masterplan forms part of a wider Levelling Up scheme by Sandwell Council using £20m in government funding to build homes, improve green spaces and expand the Millennium Centre.

Several events are being held in the town until consultation closes on 11 June.

'Thriving'

The council said the masterplan aimed to ensure the town centre "thrives, grows and is ready to meet the challenges faced by climate, economic and behavioural changes in the future".

The authority added that under the Levelling Up scheme, more than 600 homes are earmarked for Friar Park Urban Village, in addition to improvements to green spaces at four locations and better CCTV.

A masterplan for West Bromwich town centre was launched in 2022 and both strategies should be seen as complementary and form part of the wider regeneration strategy for Sandwell, the council said.

Residents are asked to attend two events at Wednesbury Library on 14 May from 18:00 BST and at Morrisons on 1 June between 10:00 and 12:00 BST.
