People are being warned to be vigilant after a spate of mobile phone thefts by people dressed in black, riding e-bikes and e-scooters.
Swathes of Cambridge have been targeted including Newmarket Road, Trumpington Road, Jesus Lane, Parker's Piece, Midsummer Common, near Cambridge North Station, Emmanuel Street and Christ's Pieces.
Police said officers were investigating nine incidents that took place between Saturday and Monday.
An investigation is under way and Cambridgeshire Police said there were extra high-visible and plain-clothed patrols of the areas.
Insp Shawn Emms said: "We understand these incidents are concerning for the community.
"We urge anyone who witnesses any suspicious behaviour or has information to contact is immediately."
People with Apple phones are being urged to consider disabling the iPhone control centre on the locked screen in their settings to prevent thieves being able to put the phone in "aeroplane" mode when the device is locked.
Insp Emms added: "Where possible, also keep your phone out of sight when not in use and be cautious when using your phone in public.
"Store your phone in a zipped bag or pocket and keep them close to you."
