A man who sexually assaulted a woman after a night out has been jailed for four years and 11 months.

Humberside Police said James Ward, 34, of Scunthorpe, sexually assaulted a woman in a field after meeting her in a bar in Brigg during the early hours of 1 August 2021.

Ward fled the scene and his victim was found later by friends in distress, the force added.

Ward pleaded guilty to assault by penetration and was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday. He will be on the sex offenders register for life.

Det Con Rebecca McInnis said: "Ward's actions were abusive and exploitative, targeting a vulnerable woman for his own predatory gratification.

"This traumatic experience will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the woman, and while no outcome can reverse the harm caused, I hope his guilty plea provides some measure of relief."
