A free skateboarding event offering coaching and a skate art workshop is being held in Wolverhampton later.

West Midlands skateboarder Bob Sanderson will be at Bell Square, on Victoria Street, for the event which starts at 11:00 BST.

There will also be music, a breakdancing demonstration and other well-known skateboarders Poppy Holmes-Volk, Marcus Palmer, Ben Plum and Callum Sidlauskas attending.

Skateboard GB said local activists and youth workers from the Community First Initiative came up with the idea for a skate jam in the city following the recent Paris Olympics.

The city council and Breaking GB, the governing body for breakdancing, are also involved.

There will be activities throughout the day, which include free coached skateboarding sessions for anyone aged seven and over, along with a pop-up skate art workshop for all ages, with music from local DJs and food.

Chris Lawton, community development officer at Skateboard GB, said: "We are proud to be supporting the event at Bell Square in Wolverhampton, which has had a thriving skateboard community for decades, and are really happy to be working closely with the local community as part of our collaboration with Community First Initiative, where we're keen to ensure a strong legacy."
