A man has been arrested over a city centre assault that left "blood all over the street".

Officers were called to London Street, Norwich, just after 01:00 BST to assist ambulance crews, following reports a man had been attacked.

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with injuries to his face and head that are not thought to be life-threatening, police said.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault, and subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker, police said.

Luke Wilson, owner of a nearby tattoo studio, told the BBC he saw a police presence and noticed the blood when he arrived for work.

"I got into work about 07:15 BST and noticed the police cordon, went into the studio, came back out and noticed a load of blood all over the street," he said.

At one point all of London Street was closed, he said, but eventually it was reduced to a small cordon outside a tapas restaurant.
