Tip booking system pushed back to 'early 2026'

The booking system had originally been due to launch in 2025

The introduction of a booking system at four household tips has been pushed back to "early 2026", Dorset Council has said.
The scheme at Dorchester, Wimborne, Shaftesbury and Sherborne aims to reduce congestion and prevent misuse by commercial users and people from outside the county.
It had originally be due to launch in 2025, but the authority said the extra time would allow it to make sure the system was working smoothly.
Residents will be able to book free of charge, either online or by phone, while non-Dorset residents will pay a fee.
Updates on the exact start date and how to book will be released at a later date.
Place services councillor Jon Andrews said: "We're taking a little extra time to make sure the system works smoothly for everyone.
"This is about delivering a better experience for residents and ensuring the service remains fair, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible."
Dorset Council's original plan to introduce booking at all 10 of its sites prompted a backlash, leading it to revise the plans to four locations.
It said "alternative measures" would be explored to combat commercial misuse at Bridport, Swanage, Weymouth, Portland, Wareham and Blandford.
About 20% of the waste received at Shaftesbury and Sherborne comes from outside of the county, according to the council, with the cost currently being met by council tax payers.
Residents from across the county border in Somerset and Wiltshire will still be able to use both tips but will be required to pay an entry fee.
