Homes have been approved on the site of a plastics factory after plans for a supermarket fell through.

Nottingham City Council's planning committee gave permission for MyPad and Nottingham Community Housing Association to build 113 affordable homes at the former Chronos Richardson site off Belconnen Road in Bestwood on Wednesday.

In total 18 flats and 95 houses will be built on the site, with all shared-ownership or social housing.

Previous plans for a new Lidl and 62 homes were approved in 2022 but have since fallen through, the committee heard.

In 2023 Lidl withdrew from the scheme after Section 106 financial contributions led to delays, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Committee member councillor Graham Chapman said: "We've been discussing this site for many, many years, and I've always been reluctant to think this was going to be developed.

"It is quite a nice site, it could be open space. But you get to the stage where social need is so important.

"I think this is probably as good a use as any."
