Daniel Conway, 32, from Swindon in Wiltshire, died after the vehicle he was travelling in left the eastbound carriageway of the M4 near Leigh Delamere at about 02:00 GMT on Sunday.
Another man who was also in the car is currently being treated in hospital for serious injuries. Wiltshire Police confirmed no other vehicles were involved.
A 29-year-old man from Swindon has been bailed with conditions after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He was also arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen for drink and drugs.
In a statement, Mr Conway's family said they were "absolutely devastated".
"He was a much-loved son and daddy as well as a family member and friend to many.
"Daniel was known for his positive outlook on life, his infectious smile and how he was always able to make people laugh.
"Daniel was always kind and had a beautiful energy around him. Our lives are so much darker now without the light and sparkle Daniel brought to everyone who knew him," they said.
