Drainpipe discovery led to village bomb fears

A number of homes were evacuated on Sunday after police were called to Over Lane in Baslow

Several homes in a village in Derbyshire were evacuated over fears of "unexploded munition" that turned out to be a piece of drainpipe.
Officers said they were called to Over Lane in Baslow, near Bakewell, at 12:45 GMT on Sunday over "concern around an item found in the back garden of a house".
A small number of homes were evacuated and a bomb squad reviewed images of the item, the force told the BBC.
"On further inspection of the item, it was found to be a piece of drainpipe," a spokesperson said.
"The concern was that it was an unexploded munition of some description - EOD [explosive ordnance disposal] reviewed the images of the item but did not need to attend the scene," they added.
Officers closed a stretch of Over Lane, from Baslow Road to School Lane, while the incident was dealt with.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to assist police at 13:35, but their attendance was not required after the item was identified.
Officers said residents were able to return to their homes just before 15:00.
