Hundreds object to new homes for village

Proposals for around 250 houses could increase significantly the size of a Surrey village, according to some residents.
Developers have put forward a green belt site which covers 10.7 hectares to the north of Blundel Lane in Stoke D'Abernon near Cobham.
If plans are approved, a whole new neighbourhood could be attached to the semi-rural village of 1,800 people and could potentially see the population increase by 500 to 750.
Nearly 300 letters of objection were sent to Elmbridge Borough Council flagging issues like increased traffic, damaging the "semi-rural character of the village" and the "impact on crumbling infrastructure".
The land is covered by rough grass, scrub and areas of mature trees and is partially used for private horse riding, according to Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The site has been earmarked for residential development since 2016/17, planning documents state.
One of the key reasons given was the delivery of new homes to support the council's housing need.
Keeping trees, nurturing wildflower meadows and wetlands, as well as creating green spaces are included in the developer's plans.
