A seven-year-old boy has raised more than £600 for charity after walking, cycling and scooting 145 miles over four months.

Isaac Yates, from King's Cliffe, Northamptonshire, got into the habit of exercising on 1 May and completed his 145-mile (233km) challenge, in aid of the Sue Ryder, external Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough, on 1 September.

He has helped walk family dogs Poppy and Summer, ridden his bike, and scooted his scooter until the mileage totted up to his 145 target.

The youngster added to the fun by logging his trips on an online Lord of the Rings game - which enabled him to take a virtual 145-mile journey through writer J. R. R. Tolkien's fictional Middle Earth with two Hobbits.

Isaac's mother, Zoë Hopkinson, 36, is a physiotherapist at the hospice, and said the youngster had wanted to "help people".

She said he had exercised most days with relatives until he reached his goal.

Ms Hopkinson said Isaac had cycled 15 miles around Rutland Water, external, which lies near Oakham, Rutland, on 1 September to complete his journey.

"The shortest distance he's done is a mile - the longest 15 miles," she said.

"He's walked, walked the dogs, cycled and taken his scooter.

"Someone's always been with him and we haven't counted the few hundred yards he regularly walks to school - or football."

'Picnic'

Ms Hopkinson said Isaac, who was six when he started on his journey and turned seven in May, had raised more than £600.

Family members had celebrated the end of the trail with a picnic, she said.

She said she had not yet decided how the money would be given to the hospice.
