A man has been arrested on suspicion of cutting cables at a series of mobile phone sites across the island.

Police launched an investigation on Wednesday after "malicious damage" was made to five of JT's mobile phone network sites.

It said the damage could cause potential service disruption across the island, with incidents occurring at La Mare Estate in St John and at a site near L'Etacq on Wednesday, and then at three sites on Thursday in St Ouen.

Police officers and a security company patrolled other JT sites in the island overnight and a man was arrested earlier.

The force said the damage put the phone network at risk but the 999 emergency number was never threatened.

Officers urged people to stay away from mobile phone sites.

The BBC has contacted JT for comment.
