Section of M6 to close for urgent repairs

National Highways North West said vital repairs would be made to the road

A section of the M6 is to close for several hours across two days while urgent repairs are made.
The M6 southbound, from junctions 39 near Shap to 36 at Crooklands, will close at 20:00 GMT to 05:00 on Thursday, and the same time from Thursday to Friday.
National Highways North West said vital repairs would be made to the central barrier after recent crashes, and joints on two bridges at Castle Howe and Borrowbeck would be fixed.
It comes as an amber weather warning has been issued for Thursday with a cold snap bringing freezing conditions across the UK.
Leaves on the road would also be cleared to improve drainage, a spokesperson said.
National Highways North West said a diversion would be in place directing drivers over the A6, A591 and A590, which leads back on to the M6.
Earlier this month, a section of the M6 motorway between junctions 41 and 42 was closed due to flooding.
