Planning permission has been granted for a new driving test centre in Grimsby.

North East Lincolnshire Council approved plans by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to convert vacant offices at Olympia House, off Appian Way, into the new centre.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, there will not be any immediate changes in local test capacity.

The DVSA said no tests would be lost as a result of the move and they would confirm an opening date "as soon as we are able to".

A spokesperson added: "DVSA's priorities are to bring waiting times down and provide a full-time, accessible driving test centre for the town."

The existing centre is based at Grimsby Coldwater, close to the A180 Pyewipe roundabout.

The new test centre will be open from 07:00 to 17:00, Monday to Saturday.

It would undertake up to 36 vehicle tests a day on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, and up to 18 on Wednesday and Thursday.

There is currently a backlog in driving tests nationally.

The government brought in changes in April to discourage the impact of driving tests being block booked and late cancellations.
