People urged to have their say on street revamp

People will be able to have their say on how to improve the well-used route in the cathedral city

People have been urged to have their say on how an "important and well-used" main road could be improved for shoppers, visitors and cyclists.

Hertfordshire County Council and St Albans City & District Council have been working with residents to transform Victoria Street in the cathedral city.

The district council said it aimed to create a more sustainable, safe and vibrant road, which runs between the main railway station and the city centre.

People will be able to suggest improvements for the street for the next six weeks.

The council has made several suggestions on how improvements can be made including more seating areas and trees

To share their views, residents can attend drop-in events or fill out a short survey and suggest potential changes.

A spokesperson for the city and district council said improvements could include:

• more trees

• new places to sit

• improved signage

• storytelling features

• wider pavements

• protected cycle lanes and cycle parking

• better bus stops

• accessibility measures

Rupert Thacker, director of transport for the county council, said: "This project represents an exciting opportunity for St Albans residents to be involved and help shape future plans right from the start."

Chris Traill, strategic director for community and place delivery for the district council, said: "We are really excited about this project to enhance one of the best-known streets in St Albans and urge residents to get involved."

People have been urged to share their views by 12 November.
