A person has been treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at a home in Eastbourne.

Emergency services were called to Ringwood Road at 15:33 BST on Thursday.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service asked people to avoid the area and advised residents to keep windows and doors closed.

An investigation will be launched into the cause of the fire, the fire service confirmed.

Four fire engines from Eastbourne, Newhaven and Bexhill dealt with the blaze at its height.

South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the fire service said as of 16:41 BST, the fire was extinguished.

"Crews are damping down and checking for hot spots to ensure the fire is completely out," they said.

"They are also providing targeted home safety advice to local residents."
