A man has died after reportedly getting into difficulty in the sea in Dorset.

Emergency services were called to East Beach at West Bay shortly after 08:40 BST to reports of a man in need of medical attention.

Lyme Regis lifeboat, the coastguard and air ambulance attended but the man died at the scene.

Dorset Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious and his family had been informed.

Lyme Regis RNLI lifeboat said its volunteer crew responded to "an immediate launch request from HM Coastguard to go to the aid of a person reported to be in difficulty in the water at East Beach".

A police spokesperson said: "Our thoughts are with the man's family and friends at this very difficult time."
