A large gorse fire has broken out in a Hampshire field.

Firefighters were called to the area off Stanswood Road, in Calshot, at 19:00 BST and remain on the scene.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said it had sent crews from Hardley, Hythe, Beaulieu, Eastleigh and Ringwood.

A spokesperson said the service had received "multiple calls" about the fire, and people in the area were being advised to close doors and windows due to the smoke.

They said: "Firefighters are using a main jet and two hose reels to tackle the fire, which is estimated to be affecting an area of gorse and standing crop of around 400m (1,312ft) x 80m (262ft)."

There are no reported injuries.
