Motorists are being warned of disruption as an M4 junction has been closed after a crash.

Emergency services attended the scene following a single-vehicle collision on the eastbound junction 17 exit slip road for Chippenham, in Wiltshire at around 02:50 BST.

The car was being pursued by Avon and Somerset Police in connection with an ongoing aggravated burglary investigation in the Gwent force area. No one was injured, police have said.

Officers have arrested a man on suspicion of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving and possession of firearms and the area of the collision is still cordoned off for further investigations, Gwent Police said.

The arrested man has been held in custody for questioning.

National Highways said the entry slipway on the eastbound carriageway had reopened but the exit road remains closed while police investigate.

Wiltshire Police said traffic approaching the roundabout from the A350 and the A429 would be diverted and it would not be possible for drivers to enter the A429 from junction 17.

"It may be closed for a number of hours while an investigation takes place. Please seek alternative routes," Wiltshire Police added.
