Machetes, lock knives and swords were among 93 weapons seized during a recent amnesty in Bradford, police have said.

Officers carried out regular checks in the city during the summer using a detector called a knife pole to find concealed blades, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Insp Justin Adams, from the city neighbourhood policing team, said while there was still significant work to do to reduce knife crime in Bradford, "every weapon surrendered is one less that could be used to cause serious harm".

"This amnesty is about more than just removing knives. It's about having conversations through education and building trust within our communities to make our streets safer," he added.

Police said that in Bradford, violent offending involving knives had fallen by 9.6% for victims under 25 in the past year, and by 21.3% for victims under 18.

Anyone who had a concern about a weapon and would like to report it to police was urged to get in touch with West Yorkshire Police.
