Attempted murder charge follows two city assaults

A man has been charged with attempted murder after two serious assaults in Derby.

On Saturday at about 21:30 BST, a woman was attacked by a man carrying a hammer in Normanton Road and was taken to hospital with cuts to her head.

The second assault happened at a home in Churchside Walk on Sunday at about 02:30, Derbyshire Police said, leaving a man with life-changing injuries in hospital, where he remains.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and wounding with intent in relation to the Churchside Walk assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in connection with the Normanton Road attack.

Three men and a woman were also arrested in connection with the Churchside Walk assault and have been released on bail as investigations continue, the force added.
