A man is being held in police custody after allegedly threatening someone with a knife during a football match.
Gloucestershire Police were called to the incident at a pitch belonging to St Peter's High School in Tuffley at around 21:30 BST on Tuesday.
A man playing in the match is said to have punched another man and threatened him with a knife, before getting into a car and fleeing the scene.
Officers worked with colleagues from West Mercia Police to identify a 30-year-old man from Gloucester, who was later arrested by police.
He is currently being held on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and affray.
The game was a private letting by members of the public and unrelated to the school itself.
Police added that the game was being played by adults and no children were involved in the incident.
Insp Ash Gardner, of the Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Following a report of a nasty incident during a football match, officers worked quickly to identify and arrest a suspect.
“People should be able to enjoy their free time activities in a safe environment. Officers will not tolerate any behaviour which threatens anyone in our communities.
“We’re aware of social media posts concerning the incident. We’d ask people not to speculate while investigations continue," Mr Gardner added.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which might aid their investigation is being urged to contact Gloucestershire Police.
