A disused Grade II listed pub that closed 20 years ago could be turned into flats under new plans.
The Old Falcon in St Neots, Cambridgeshire would reopen as 14 properties and two shops if approved.
The planning application, supported by Huntingdonshire District Council, is part of a wider £15m project to revitalise the town centre.
Councillor for economy, regeneration and housing, Sam Wakeford, said the plan was a "significant step" towards improving the Market Square area.
The building was purchased by Dennis Whitfield for £1m in 2005, Cambridgeshire Live reported, external.
Plans showed, external the ground floor of the building fitted out as a pub, while the first and second floor were a mix of office and domestic spaces.
"The general condition of the interior is poor and needs significant refurbishment," a design and access statement read.
A public consultation was held by the council, in conjunction with Mr Whitfield, at Market Square on Saturday.
The local authority said "significant progress" had been made on securing its future, including "detailed structural and condition surveys".
Mr Wakeford, a Labour councillor, said bringing The Old Falcon back into use would enhance the town centre.
"[It] will help improve conditions for local businesses, boost footfall and create a more vibrant community space," he added.
