A 15th Century pub has been sold at auction to a real estate firm.

The Magpie Inn in Little Stonham, near Stowmarket, was put up for auction last month after closing its doors in 2024.

The pub in Suffolk was sold at the upper end of the guide price for £220,000 on Wednesday.

The Torksey Pub Company Ltd, which is based in Rugby in Warwickshire, said it would reveal its plans for the venue in the future.

With its landmark sign located beside the A140 Norwich Road, the pub has been well known by passing motorists.

The metal sign, which was given Grade II listed status in 1987, was previously damaged after it was struck by a passing vehicle.

A £30,000 crowdfunding appeal was made to pay for the repairs.

The pub had been owned by Joseph Wadie Bahar, based in Ipswich, who bought it for £224,200 in February 2011.

The Torksey Pub Company Ltd is part of the Gold Leaf Property Investments group (GLPI).

GLPI already owns six pubs in the UK, according to its website.
