In pictures: Flooding hits county after heavy rain

Officials in a county hit by flooding have warned residents to "continue to take extra care" and plan their journeys.

Some flood warnings remained in place for Northamptonshire, and an amber weather warning for rain was issued for 18:00 BST Thursday until 06:00 on Friday.

The clear-up continues for residents and business owners in places as far apart as Thrapston and Sulgrave,

West Northamptonshire Council has advised people to call 999 if anyone is in danger in the floodwater.

A spokesperson for West Northamptonshire Council said: "Water levels across the area remain very high, with flood warnings currently in place on the River Nene at Billing and Cogenhoe to Great Doddington, as well as the River Tove at Towcester and Cosgrove and low-lying areas close to the River Great Ouse and River Ouzel at Newport Pagnell."

The Met Office said heavy rain was likely to cause flooding and transport disruption on Thursday evening and overnight.
