A hotel in Guernsey has been sold to a hotel chain after being put up for sale for the first time in 40 years in 2024.

The La Barbarie Hotel in St. Martin has been bought by Eight Continents Hotels and Resorts due to the previous owners retiring.

The group said the hotel had a 4.8/5 rating on TripAdvisor and was previously owned by business partners Andrew Wright and Andy Coleman.

Haninder Sachdeva, the chief executive officer of Eight Continents Hotels and Resorts, said Guernsey had a "rich cultural heritage and natural beauty".

The hospitality group said the hotel would undergo a soft enhancement programme until the leadership of the general manager Liam Bumstead.

Originally a small monastery, the building was converted to a hotel in 1950.

The previous owners' renovations, which included creating more air conditioned en-suite bedrooms and upgrading the foyer and restaurant, led to the business receiving two four-star ratings from AA and Visit Guernsey in 2019.
