Former Conservative Senedd group leader Paul Davies has been appointed the party's deputy leader in Cardiff Bay, under changes leader Darren Millar has made to his team.

It follows two Tories quitting the Senedd's Covid committee after Labour refused to support their calls for witnesses to give evidence under oath.

Ex-committee co-chair Tom Giffard has become shadow counsel general, as well as party spokesman on delivery, external affairs and the Welsh language.

Davies resigned as Conservative Senedd leader during the pandemic for drinking wine in a Welsh Parliament tearoom while a Wales-wide alcohol ban was in place. He was later cleared of breaking the Senedd's code of conduct.

Davies also retains shadow cabinet roles as chief whip and spokesman on constitutional matters.

Preseli Pembrokeshire MS Davies said he was "honoured" to take on the deputy leadership position.
