Firefighters have tackled a suspected deliberate fire in the New Forest.

Emergency services were called at about 18:30 BST on Thursday to the blaze at Dibden Enclosure.

Fire crews from Hythe Fire Station along with a wildfire vehicle were used to put the fire out before dampening down to prevent it reigniting.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said it was thought to have been started "carelessly and deliberately".

The fire service has urged anyone with information about the fire to come forward

The fire service said: "If anyone has any further information, please contact 101 and help us put a stop to them before they hurt themselves, someone else or cause irreversible damage to the forest."

It added it had passed information on the blaze, which started on the edge of the villages of Dibden Purlieu and Hythe, to the Forestry Commission and police.
