The transformation of a historic music venue in Wolverhampton has been shortlisted for a construction award.

The refurbishment of the 85-year-old Civic Halls was named as a finalist in the Constructing Excellence West Midlands Awards 2024.

The Grade II-listed venue, now known as The Halls Wolverhampton, reopened in May 2023 following the £48m revamp.

As well as increasing the height above the stage, more bars and social spaces were created.

The refurbishment also included revamped toilet facilities, improved access for disabled visitors and more comfortable seats.

The council estimated it would attract more than 300,000 visitors to the city and boost the local economy by more than £10m each year.

The Halls Wolverhampton was nominated in the regeneration and retrofit category with the winner to be announced at a ceremony at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham on 2 May.
