A man has been jailed after inflicting injuries on a woman that left her children not wanting to cuddle her.

Kyle Milsom, 44, of Linden Avenue in Pinehurst, Swindon, was jailed for two years and 10 months after committing actual bodily harm (ABH).

"This attack has left us all feeling vulnerable and traumatised," his victim said.

Milsom, who had pleaded guilty to the assault, was also given a seven year restraining order during the sentencing at Swindon Crown Court on Thursday.

The court was told Milsom attacked his victim on 10 December last year between 15:00 and 16:00 GMT.

The woman was hit with such force that it caused deep cuts and swelling and she required hospital treatment, police said.

"On returning home from hospital my children don't want to look at me or cuddle me, and as a mother I found this the hardest," she said in a statement.

'Lasting effects'

Milsom was sentenced to two years and eight months for ABH, one month for battery and two months for a further count of battery.

The two sentences for battery are to run concurrent, but consecutive to the ABH sentence.

PC Sam Bridgeman, of Wiltshire Police, said: "Whilst I do not underestimate the long lasting effects Milsom’s behaviour will have on his victim, I have nothing but admiration for her for having the courage and bravery to report her ordeal to police.

"This is the first step in ensuring justice could be served and I hope this sentence is reassuring to both her and the community that we will do all we can to ensure perpetrators are put before the courts.”
