New detailed plans for a stadium in Cornwall have been submitted by Cornwall Council to its own planning authority.

The move comes after plans for the Stadium for Cornwall at the site - which would have also housed the Cornish Pirates rugby union team - collapsed in June 2022.

The proposed stadium, named Truro Sports Hub, would have a capacity of up to 4,000, reduced from the 10,000 that was suggested in the original Stadium for Cornwall plan, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The site at Langarth, near Truro, would include a main pitch with seating which would become home to Truro City Football Club, a community pitch and parking spaces.

The council's plans include a 3m (10ft) wide footpath from the A390 through the neighbouring Langarth park and ride facility, and potential for a community building and clubhouse with changing facilities.

The new application, which does not mention whether Cornish Pirates rugby team would play at the Truro Sports Hub, has an aspiration that the pitch could be adapted for other sports, including rugby.

Laura Potts, planning consultant with CAD Planning, which is working on the application, said in a report to Cornwall Council planners that the application followed the approval of a larger scheme on the site.

Truro City Football Club unveiled its own very similar plans at Threemilestone Community Centre earlier this year, which were not submitted as a planning application.

The club, who were promoted to National League South, have been ground-sharing with Plymouth Parkway FC at Bolitho Park since their ground at Treyew Road was sold to make way for a new Lidl supermarket.

Truro City FC was bought by the Pirates team in March 2021 and the plan then was for the two teams to share the use of the new Stadium for Cornwall.

A decision by the council’s planning department or committee is understood to be pending.
