New weekend bus service launches over summer

A new bus shuttle service will run over the summer holidays to improve a city park’s connectivity and accessibility.

‘Your Community Greenbus’ is being launched by Nene Park Trust in Peterborough which will drop visitors off at Ferry Meadows’ main car park.

The service will run every 90 minutes from Herald Way in Gunthorpe, with stops in Paston, New England and Millfield along the way.

The shuttle will run between 21 July until 1 September and will operate between 09:00BST and 18:00 BST on Saturdays. Tickets cost £2 per person, with under 10s going free.

The service, run by Vectare bus company, has been organised by Nene Park Trust with funding from The National Heritage Lottery Fund.

Currently, there was not a route that took travellers to the park, which made it hard for people who relied on public transport.

Nene Park Trust said the he aim of the project was to make the park more accessible for those living on the other side of Peterborough and to offer a sustainable travel option for all.

It added that the shuttle would be closely evaluated throughout the summer, to see whether a permanent bus service into the park is a viable option.
