A paedophile has been jailed for sexually abusing a boy over a five-year period during the 1980s.

Colin Dean, 58, of Orchard Road, Histon, in Cambridgeshire, indecently assaulted the child, who was under the age of 14, in various locations in the county between 1980 and 1985, police said.

A jury found him guilty of four counts of indecent assault on a boy and four counts of inciting a boy to commit an act of gross indecency.

Dean was sentenced to four years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on Friday, and placed on the sex offender register indefinitely.

His offences did not come to light until July 2021, Cambridgeshire Constabulary said.

"Dean took advantage of the child to sexually abuse him, so it's good news he's been jailed," said Det Sgt Mark Williamson.

"I would like to thank the victim for his bravery in coming forward and the strength he has shown throughout the investigation and subsequent court case.

"Dean’s conviction is testament to the victim’s courage."
